Story
The author returns to his native Jerusalem in search of inspiration for his next book, only to find the townspeople attacked by a bloodthirsty vampire. Writer Gary Dauberman told Den of Geek in June 2019 that his goal with the new Salem’s Lot was to make vampires scary again. He wants to move away from the sexier, more romantic undead that have plagued pop culture for the better part of the last quarter-century, thanks to everything from Interview with the Vampire to Twilight to The Vampire Diaries. When Ben is reading old newspapers on microfilm at the library, the headline reads: “Local Couples Victims of Drunk Driving.” The newspaper is believed to have been printed in 1956, when the term “DUI” was not yet in use.
That said, it is very average
Sundown Written and starring: Gordon Lightfoot Courtesy of Warner Records By arrangement with Warner Music Group Film & Television Licensing. First of all, I have to say that even if a Stephen King adaptation is weak, it is at least watchable. That is a testament to King’s work. This film is lucky to be a King film.
However, every aspect of the development of the story was abandoned
At the beginning of the film I was very excited, everything was going well, there was an air of unease and it looked very royal. Pretty quickly we get to the point where people have simply disappeared from the town. It happens so quickly that the remaining people just “know” that it is because of vampires. They also seem to know right away who the main vampire is, which makes no sense.
Also, no gore
I have seen some incredibly bad horror films in my time and this one is not bad, it is just too fast. In a vampire film. Too bad. If this were a mini-series of 8-10 episodes it would work.
The elements are there
The cast is there. I have to commend the faithfulness to the source material, you can tell the creators understood what they were working with. Looking for something else to add to your watchlist? Take a look at the movies and TV shows streaming this month.
